Anthony Edwards is currently one of the most dominant players in the NBA, averaging 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, all while leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to 1st place in the Western Conference. Edwards has been gaining immense popularity recently due to his outstanding game performances and competitive mindset. Edwards is one of the youngest stars in the NBA and is significantly improving each year, so let’s look at his game and see what makes him so unstoppable.
Edward’s quick first step, paired with his explosiveness and body control, allows him to blow by anybody, making him nearly impossible to guard. Edwards, while being a freak athlete, is shooting a career-best 57% from the field and 47% from the three. Edwards can also attack closeouts effectively by simply faking his jump shot and going all the way to the rim. With Edwards being a major threat at the three-point line, defenders tend to guard him very aggressively to stop him from shooting the ball, allowing him to drive right past them; he can also use his speed to drive to the basket relentlessly.
Edwards is one of the best at reading the defense and making quick decisions. He can locate where exactly his defender is positioned and if there is an opportunity to drive past them. His momentum allows him to use screens effectively and find more opportunities to score. Edwards also has an elite change of pace, making him unpredictable and keeping his defenders guessing. He uses the same move by simply going between the legs, hesitating for a moment, then exploding right out and driving straight to the basket. This catches many defenders off guard because of how well Edwards can explode out with this one move. Edwards is also incredible in the post, using his strength and extreme physicality with every defender. Edwards uses every part of the backboard to finish no matter how difficult the shot is. His beautiful fadeaway and spin moves are also unguardable and work nearly every time.
Overall, Anthony Edwards can make anything happen even in the worst situations. Fans have been saying he could be the next Michael Jordan with his incredible midrange and unstoppable fadeaway. Edward’s incredible shooting ability along with his fearless finishing and supreme athleticism make him a unique scorer and one of the most skilled players in the league.
